I’m a lucky man!!!

I have a terrific wife, four great kids and, 4 wonderful grandchildren . My wife loves me unconditionally and I have a relationship with her that is both meaningful and provocative. She is the love of my life. My kids call me all the time with more than small talk and what can a grandpa say about his grandkids, well….. it’s surreal. My parents are alive and well. My mom Marilyn is a wonder of good health at 84. My dad Cecil, after 83 years, is still kickin’ life in the butt in spite of having several heart attacks, a stroke and, open heart surgery. He remains mobile, lucid, and cantankerous as ever.

My health is good (being 61) in spite of drinking to much (thankfully not too often), eating poorly, and sigh…, being overweight. My doctor, who I avoid at all costs, says he doesn’t want me as a patient any more because I won’t correct the above mentioned. I know, health professionals look on people like me with total contempt but when you feel good doin’ what you do why change it? “Why grease a wheel that ain’t squeaking”, I say.

Vanity aside (I loathe talking about myself), I am a person who cares. Constantly, I’m criticized about caring to much. Somehow I have the ability to make other people’s problems my problems and that keeps me awake at night. Oh yeah, I forgot to mention previously that I’m also a poor sleeper. Suffering from insomnia is a lifelong malady which I have grown to accept and, at times, enjoy. Weird eh?  Anyway, when you care about people you draw from them… friendship. Friendships are valuable to me. I love the company of people. It insipers me to care more.
